Joshua knew that he dreamt by the dirty hay smell, the pattern in the thatched roof above his head, and the faint buzzing of flies circling. So achingly familiar from so long ago. This was where he’d hidden with Delilah when he’d first landed in this new world.
Delilah had been kind. She’d shared her food from the little village and showed him how to survive. The rest of the village had thought the weak new boy, unrelated to anyone in the village, would make the perfect sacrifice to their Other keepers.
